Mission Statement The mission of the Coryell Autism Center, Adult Services, is to provide programs and services which will ensure long-term social change for adults with autism. The center is a private, nonprofit organization established in 2007. Our day program focuses on every aspect of community involvement. Out clients benefit from onsite job skills and employment training, recreational services, grocery shopping and inclusive community functions.
Volunteer Duties We were just approved for a $5000 grant to begin the "Athletes with Autism Sports and Recreation Club." This club will meet 2 times/month (probably on evenings or weekends). This club will be a place for adults with Autism to come and enjoy recreation and sports. We plan on going hiking, playing basketball, kayaking, fishing, beach volleyball, camping and other fun recreational activities. This is an inclusive program, meaning adults with disabilities will get a chance for "typical" peer integration (ie: your volunteers).
Notes

We will conduct a "training" to inform volunteers on what to expect and give them our expectations for this fun opportunity. The training will touch on how to interact with a person with autism, skills related to the particular recreation/sports activities and a list of dates and times for our clinics. After these clinics and our program grows, I anticipating hiring a few new staff from the pool of volunteers. Please get back to me so we can discuss further details and see if this is something that your group could partner with us on. Thank you.  Updated 11.8.16
